Warrior Toy Museum in Simon's Town: A Train Lover's Stop

Posted on Tue November 3, 2026.

Plan a visit to Simon's Town's Warrior Toy Museum, ask when the model railways run and decide whether to include a real train ride.

If a child or adult in your group likes miniature railways, the Warrior Toy Museum gives a Simon's Town visit a focus beyond the penguins. It is a collection of model trains and vintage toys on King George Way. Ask about opening hours and whether the layout will be running before building a day around it.

Make the model railway the reason to stop

The local museum listing describes two operating model railroads and other displays. Cape Town Tourism also describes model vehicles, dolls, aircraft and toy soldiers. These are display collections. Ask the museum whether the trains will run during your visit and whether guests need to request a demonstration. For a child keen on trains, that matters more than how many other toys are in the room.

Use the current museum listing and Cape Town Tourism listing to check the address and find a contact. Published directories give different schedules and contact numbers. Confirm the opening time, fee and payment method for your date before making a special trip. Ask about the entrance, stairs and space for a pram or mobility aid if those details affect your group. Check photography rules before taking photos inside.

Pair the museum with a town stop or a train ride

A train-themed day can include a regular passenger train to Simon's Town and a separate look at the model layout. If you want both, confirm the museum first, then check the rail timetable and your onward walk or lift. Check the return service before choosing the outward train. Our Southern Line guide covers the transport decision in more detail. A ride on the line is a different experience from a steam excursion.

If you are driving, use King George Way for the museum rather than the railway station as your destination. Keep a lunch or harbour-side stop flexible. If the layout is running and your group wants more time, you can stay with the collection instead of rushing to fit in a second museum.

Keep an alternative for the group

If you cannot confirm that the museum is open, use our family guide to Simon's Town to choose a separate activity. Keep the model railway as an optional stop. A smaller itinerary makes it easier to give a train enthusiast time at the display while still leaving room for the rest of the family.
