Peregrine or Houw Hoek? Choose an N2 Farm-Stall Stop

Posted on Tue November 3, 2026.

Compare Peregrine and Houw Hoek farm stalls for an N2 drive through Elgin, with kitchen hours, food options and where each fits.

For one farm-stall stop on the N2 through Elgin, choose Peregrine near the Grabouw turnoff if you want an earlier break or a café meal. Choose Houw Hoek if you want to stop farther along the route towards Botrivier, especially for a pie and coffee. Both can work in either direction. Check the kitchen hours separately if you want to sit down.

Peregrine if the café is the main stop

Peregrine Farmstall lists a café and bakery at its Elgin site. Its published schedule separates the shop from the kitchen. It lists kitchen closing at 14:30 Monday to Thursday and 15:30 Friday to Sunday, while the farm stall stays open later. Check those times before choosing a late lunch. If the kitchen has closed, ask what's available to take away rather than expecting the café menu.

Peregrine is near the N2 and R321 junction at Grabouw. For a group travelling separately, share the exact destination and agree whether you're meeting for a meal or only a short stop. If you are coming from Cape Town, this can be the earlier break on the way to Hermanus. If you are driving west, it can be the last planned food stop before the Cape Town leg.

Houw Hoek for a later break towards Botrivier

Houw Hoek Farm Stall lists a coffee shop, pies, bakery and produce. Its contact page gives 07:30 to 17:30 daily for the farm stall. Confirm coffee-shop and hot-food service separately if you are arriving near the end of the day. It is the farm stall on the N2, so check the exact listing rather than using the name Houw Hoek alone in navigation.

If your plan is a quick pie and coffee, ask what is ready when you arrive. If you're travelling with people who need particular food, call ahead to check ingredients and options. The choice is simpler if you decide before setting out whether you need a proper meal or just a break.

Choose the stop that fits the drive you are doing

For a transfer day, choose one venue around the time you want to eat. If you're headed to a timed booking in Hermanus or farther east, make the second farm stall optional. On the return, reverse the order and check what will still be serving. Share the location before travelling and use the signed access on the day.

If the farm-stall stop is one part of a wider road trip, see our Cape Town to Garden Route stopover guide for how the inland and coastal options fit together.

Adding a separate Cape Peninsula stay? Aqua Terra in Simon's Town welcomes guests aged 12 and over. Check Aqua Terra availability.
