Calitzdorp Wine Tasting on Route 62: Boplaas or De Krans?

Choose Boplaas for a tasting and platter or De Krans for a tasting and bistro lunch, with booking and Sunday timing for Route 62.
If you have one tasting stop in Calitzdorp, choose Boplaas for a tasting and a platter on Saayman Street, or De Krans if you want a separate bistro lunch and time at the vineyard. Both give you a chance to try the town's Cape fortified wine styles. Make one reservation fit your Route 62 drive before adding a second producer.

Boplaas for a tasting and a platter
Boplaas lists its Calitzdorp tasting room at 2 Saayman Street. It offers wines, spirits and cheese or charcuterie platters. Ask for the available Cape fortified styles if those are what brought you to town. You can make the stop shorter by choosing a few wines to compare instead of adding a spirit pairing or trying the full range.
The producer lists trading hours of 09:00 to 17:00 weekdays, 09:00 to 16:00 Saturday and 10:00 to 15:00 Sunday, with Good Friday and Christmas closures. Confirm when it will take the last tasting booking. The same website lists rooms in George and Hartenbos with different schedules. Use the Calitzdorp address and select the right location in any booking enquiry. Its group policy asks for advance booking and lists a maximum of 12 for that format.
De Krans if lunch is part of the plan
De Krans lists Cape fortified wines alongside its dry and other wines. Book a time slot in advance for any formal seated tasting. Groups of 10 or more also need to book ahead. The informal classic tasting is served at the counter. Its page gives two different Sunday and public-holiday opening times in different sections. Check the time directly if you're planning a morning arrival on one of those days.
The De Krans bistro and deli is on Stasieweg. Its page lists a 15:30 last kitchen order and earlier daytime service. Confirm a table and the kitchen's schedule, then fit a tasting around the meal. If your group includes people who don't drink, check whether they would rather join lunch or spend part of the stop in the deli. There is also a vineyard walk advertised by the estate. Confirm how it works before making it part of the visit.
Use the time you have on Route 62
Travellers often put Calitzdorp between Montagu or Barrydale and Oudtshoorn. If you are passing through in one day, a confirmed tasting or a lunch stop can give the town a place on the itinerary without taking up the afternoon. If you're sleeping in Calitzdorp, ask about dinner hours separately from the tasting room and check how you will get back to your accommodation.
Arrange a sober driver or other transport before the tasting. Ask about alcohol-free options for anyone who wants to join without drinking. For the broader inland and coastal route choice, see our Cape Town to Garden Route stopover guide.
Adding a separate Cape Peninsula stay? Aqua Terra in Simon's Town welcomes guests aged 12 and over. Check Aqua Terra availability.
