Dinner, Theatre and the Cape Peninsula: A Cape Town Couples' Itinerary

MAMMA MIA! returns to Cape Town's Artscape Opera House from 3 September to 11 October 2026. For couples planning a Cape break around the show, the best itinerary is not the one that squeezes Cape Point, dinner and a 7:30 pm curtain into a single day. It is the one that gives each part of the trip enough room.

Start with two unhurried nights on the False Bay side

Simon's Town is a practical base for Boulders Beach, Cape Point and the coastal villages of False Bay. Spend your arrival afternoon settling in, walking around the historic harbour area or visiting a nearby viewpoint. This leaves the following day free for the peninsula without having to cross the city before you begin.

For the Cape Point day, start early and choose the direction according to the weather. Boulders Beach, Cape Point and one relaxed village stop already make a satisfying day. Keep the Winelands and the theatre for separate outings. Parking queues, changing weather and scenic stops make the peninsula take longer than the map suggests.

Make theatre day deliberately light

Use the morning for a slow breakfast and a short local outing, then leave for central Cape Town with a generous traffic margin. Artscape is in the Foreshore area, so dinner near the theatre, the V&A Waterfront or the City Bowl can work well before the performance. Book a table early enough that dinner does not become a race to the curtain.

If you drive, Artscape advises that secure paid parking is available in the Cape Town Civic Centre basement, accessed from Jan Smuts Street during performance times. The current parking fee is R45 and payment is by debit or credit card. Recheck the theatre's official parking notice before travelling because access arrangements can change.

An arranged return transfer is the more relaxed option if both of you want to enjoy dinner without watching the clock. Confirm the pickup point and expected collection time in advance. The production runs for about two hours and 30 minutes including the interval, so a 7:30 pm performance is expected to finish at roughly 10 pm.

Book the show through the authorised channel

The production features a South African cast led by Amra-Faye Wright as Donna Sheridan. Showtime states that Ticketmaster is the only authorised ticket seller for this production. Performance times and ticket availability vary by date, so check the official Artscape event page and Showtime's official production page before finalising dinner or transport.

A simple four-night couples' itinerary

• Night 1: Arrive in Simon's Town, settle in and enjoy an easy harbour-side evening.
• Day 2: Explore Boulders Beach, Cape Point and one or two coastal stops without rushing.
• Day 3: Keep the morning light, travel into Cape Town, have an early dinner and see MAMMA MIA! at Artscape.
• Day 4: Choose a relaxed Constantia or Winelands day, or stay on the False Bay coast if the weather is better there.
• Day 5: Enjoy breakfast and depart without adding a long sightseeing detour before your flight.

The important choice is to avoid treating the theatre as an add-on to the peninsula drive. With a separate evening for Artscape, you can enjoy the scenery, dinner and the performance instead of spending the day checking the time.
