On the first Thursday of each month, central Cape Town's art galleries and studios open their doors into the evening, and the streets between them turn into one big, free, sociable art walk. It is the city's creative side with the velvet rope removed: new exhibitions, working studios, wine in hand, street food around the corners, and a crowd that is half locals, half visitors and entirely friendly. How the evening works

The hubs sit in the City Bowl's East City and around Bree and Church Streets, with a published map listing which spaces are open and showing what. Work the street-food corners between stops, keep the layers handy because the Bowl cools fast, and finish with a Kloof Street or Long Street dinner while the conversations are still warm.
