Your first day in Simons Town should be light, flexible and close to your accommodation. Arrival afternoon: keep the plan local

Allow more time than the map suggests for collecting a rental car, finding the correct route and stopping for essentials. If your accommodation is on the mountainside, confirm the arrival instructions, parking entrance and check-in time before leaving the airport.

Once you arrive, unpack, walk around the property or enjoy the False Bay view. Choose a nearby dinner rather than driving back towards central Cape Town. If you want a short outing, keep it to Simons Town or Kalk Bay and return before fatigue affects the drive.

Check tomorrow before going to sleep

First morning: start with Boulders

After breakfast, visit Boulders Beach early if penguins are a priority. The boardwalk is usually easier before the main day-tour flow. Stay on marked paths, follow conservation rules and allow time for the coastal setting rather than treating it as a quick photograph.

If you are rested and the weather is good, continue to Cape Point and give the reserve most of the day. If the flight or drive has taken more out of you than expected, postpone Cape Point. A slower Simons Town morning and a later Kalk Bay visit can be the better holiday decision.

What not to schedule on arrival day

Avoid fixed Table Mountain tickets, a long Peninsula loop, a sunset drive after a night flight or a restaurant booking that leaves no margin for delays. Cape Town weather and traffic reward flexibility, especially on the first day.

If you are not driving

Arrange the airport transfer before arrival and confirm the driver name, mobile number, meeting point and fare. Ask how you will travel to Boulders and Cape Point the next day. Do not assume that every coastal stop is practical to combine without a car or pre-arranged tour.
