Yes, wheelchair users can view the penguin colony at Foxy Beach using the boardwalk. Plan the viewing visit separately from a trip onto the sand: some connecting sections and the beach ramp are steep. A route that works for one visitor or mobility device may need assistance for another.

Choose the penguin-viewing entrance first

SANParks describes the access arrangements at Boulders: a boardwalk to Foxy Beach, ramped entry to the information centre and accessible ablutions. Willis Walk connects towards the bathing beach, with steep sections. The concrete beach ramp is also very steep. These are different routes, so ask specifically for penguin viewing when arranging your drop-off.

Explain whether you use a manual chair, powered chair, scooter or walking aid, whether a companion can assist, and which part of the site you want to visit. Ask about the best arrival point and any temporary works or closures. Keep the reply with your day's travel details so a driver and companion have the same plan.

Questions to settle before booking transport

• Can you remain in your chair during travel, or will you transfer into a vehicle seat?
• What are the folded dimensions and weight of the chair or scooter?
• Does the driver provide assistance, or transport only?
• Where will you meet for the return journey, and can you contact the driver from there?

Send these details before paying for a tour. A vehicle described as private or spacious does not, by itself, confirm a suitable transfer or loading arrangement. Ask for a specific answer rather than relying on a general accessibility label.

Choose one main outing and leave room for breaks. Avoid building the day around a fixed promise that you will cover every viewing point. That is a description of the approach, not a promise that every bathroom, doorway or shared facility meets your requirements. Before reserving, tell us what you need and ask us to confirm the room layout, shower access, thresholds and route to breakfast. The other suites require stairs.
